Marines Assume Operational Control of An Najaf and Al Qadisiyah in Iraq
The 11th Marines Expeditionary Unit (MEU), combined with the 24th MEU from Camp Lejeune, started operations in North Babil, Iraq. The Marines were initially commanded by the Multinational Division Central-South, commanded by Poland, who were responsible for Al-Qādisiyyah, Karbala, Babil, and the Wasit Governorates. The Marines were transferred to the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force on August 8th.
