Lejeune Takes Command of the Belleau Wood Marines

The day after Marines from the 4th Brigade helped secure Belleau Wood, Brigadier General John A Lejeune was assigned command. His time as the commander was short-lived, and three days later, he was promoted and assumed command of the 2nd Division. Two years later, Lejeune was appointed the 13th (12th official) Commandant of the Marine Corps.
